One of the most commonly asked questions is “Can I use my Auto Cover as my Winter Cover”
The answer is yes, however, there are some precautions you must take in order to prevent any damage to the cover and track.
Over the winter you need to maintain the proper water level, which is halfway up the skimmer. This is very important because as we see snow and ice fall on the cover it puts a lot of stress on the cover and track. Not having the pool level accurate can lead to the cover and possibly the track being pulled in.
Never open the cover with snow and ice on it. This can damage the mechanism and track. With below freezing temps it puts a strain on the cover so it should never be opened in the middle of the winter season. As the temperatures rise, and snow and ice start to thaw, it is very important that you check the water level on the first nice Spring Day.
You can leave your pool cover pump out all winter so it is ready to remove the water in the spring.
An automatic pool cover is a great thing to have! However, during the winter months it is very important to properly maintain and treat your cover. If you would like to avoid all the required maintenance, a Winter Mesh Cover might be a better option. With the mesh cover, the auto cover will be rolled up for the winter, while the mesh cover – covers the entire pool.
